I have just received a erroneous collection letter for the sum of nearly $700.00 for an account that should have been closed, which Anytime Fitness received written and verbal notice of cancellation from me, and in such, the charges were unauthorized and illegitimately obtained through Anytime Fitness and the associated branch. After receiving notice, Gina Kiel, the Anytime Fitness representative in my area, refused to remedy the situation in any way. As others have said, the customer service is thus far incredibly lacking.
The bottom line is that Anytime Fitness was made very aware that that I respectfully requested to not be charged beyond my one year of membership to their facility, and yet they took no action within my expressed request. If Anytime Fitness plans to dispute any fine ambiguity of a contract that was not explicitly explained to any gym member, we should seek legal counsel and surely take this matter to court. As an individual with a strong legal background, I refuse to allow such an unscrupulous charge to be placed against me. No former member should have to endure such, and especially with such an escalating charge for inaction of the staff at Anytime fitness, whom also intentionally mislead and conceal contract details in an effort to increase profits, such as is the case with the increasing issues discussed here, and in several other forums. With so many cases constantly developing, maybe news media outlets can help inform potential victims, and they may be able to help those who are currently experiencing the result of the unethical business practices of Anytime Fitness.
I will await response and resolution from Anytime Fitness by the end of next week, and if no satisfactory remedy is received, I feel it will be time to start making some noise with the media and legal/judicial areas.
