Contract problems with this prison gym

Do not sign a contract with this gym, no matter what you do unless you move or have a Doctors letter you can not get out of the contract not even by paying a cancellation fee.

I fell like I am working out in a prison this gym is so nasty you nearly fall on your face with all the overlapping mats on the ground. Once you sign a contract you are screwed, DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM DO NOT SIGN A CONTRACT,GO SOMEWHERE ELSE THAT IS CLEANER AND CHEAPER IT IS NOT WORTH YOUR MONEY OR TIME. TRUST ME

The gym is very clean, and the owner is VERY knowledgeable and knows what he's doing. I haven't had a problem with them yet, and don't think I will.    When someone tells you to sign something, make sure you READ what you sign, or don't sign it at all.     This is simply a case of you being an ignorant fool, and not understanding the contract that YOU signed! The states write the laws for memberships, so if you've joined any club in the same state that you are joining an Anytime Fitness, it's almost guaranteed that you've signed the same (or VERY similar) terms/ conditions with other gyms. Again, there are some rotten apples, but I can tell you that most Anytime Fitness clubs are reputable and work real hard for their members. Report

But I should have read the contract better, and then I wouldn't be a thousand bucks out with nothing to show for it. Granted, I did ask our rep up front about the cancellation process, because they are times when things get hard, and you never know. He assured me that I could pay the hundred dollars and that would take care of it. He didn't mention the doctors notice or proof of move along with the cash, but it was mixed in the bottom of hte contract. *Slaps wrist* Will definitely pay more attention next time. Report

I signed up with a auto renew contract and didn't read the fine print, no it was not in 16 font; however, I understand the contract and they do offer a cancellation policy. With regard to Anytime Fitness, they pulled a new one on me. I signed up with their "Thin and Healthy" program and low and behold I didn't cancel my contract but rather they cancelled the program altogether. They offered no reprieve, no free training sessions, which they suggest is more effective but triple the cost each month, and lastly no letter or explanation except have my previous trainer try and explain the situation and still hope she keeps her clientele. I truly do appreciate my trainer because she is very knowledgeable and certified to do the work she is doing; however, her management or whomever own the franchise in my area really chose poor judgement on cancelling a program and not offering any incentive for its members to stay on. Next time I will ask if that is in the contract up front; Can you advertise a program and just decide to cancel it whenever you feel like it? Interesting... Report

Written by Tony, on 15-05-2008 19:25 If you move away from a health club you can cancel, if you get a doctor's note you can cancel, if you are sent to active military duty you can cancel, these are mandated laws by almost every state for fitness agreements. So, if you are in one of these situations and whining about it, get off your butt and send in the necessary proof and cancel your membership. Everybody knows what they sign when they sign it. Why would you sign something without understanding it?! You are all just angry because you don't use your membership. I worked in the industry for several years managing multiple facilities. Customers come in excited to work out sign up with the intentions of getting in shape, don't show up ever again, then whine about the agreement they agreed to! RIDICULOUS! GO TO THE GYM, IT'S GOOD FOR YOU. Report

18. Written by worker, on 09-05-2008 20:54 I understand the frustration, but MANY gyms have similar contracts. I worked at a small "family gym" and we had auto renew contracts. People do not read contracts, even when they are in 16 point font. You are mad that you are locked into something. I have been in the fitness industry and worked for three differet types of gyms and I have read many contracts and heard ALL the complaints. The owners are there to make money. So be mad at yourself for not reading the contract and asking questions first!!!!!!!!!! Report

APPARENTLY the only way to get out of this contract is by serious illness, moving 30 miles away or death. WTF???? Is this a LIFETIME contract? I've NEVER heard of that. In addition my contract is incomplete with me not even initialling/ok'ing the renewable clause and they have still listed me with a debt collection agency. MY CONTRACT WAS OVER IN NOVEMBER....PAID IN FULL 20 months earlier, remember?   Anytime Fitness will never get my business and I will make sure everyone knows how I've been treated by them. Class action anyone? Report

20. Written by Agreed, on 17-04-2008 22:02 I definately agree with this. My fiance and I joined this gym January of 2007 and only have 2 months left on our contract and can't wait for it to end! When AmSouth switched to Regions, they didn't debit my account for 3 months and I got penalized monetarily even though no one attempted to contact me via phone, email, nothing...Then, I asked them to debit whatever I owed on February 18 and they said they could do that, and ended up debiting it the following day (in January). They will tell you they'll do stuff, and don't do it. It's just a really bad business place...and this one is in Mississippi. Oh...and NONE, I repeat N O N E, of the people that work there know anything about exercise, machines, weights, nothing...They might know how to operate them, but they sure don't LOOK like they do...The employees are very unhealthy looking. I'm glad I found this place to vent my feelings about this dirthole gym. Report
